Went to Paris in January 2004 for three reasons. First, I wanted to attend ExpoLangues to survey the computer assisted language learning market. Second, find an apartment in Paris for Summer. Third, it was my birthday, so why not.
Stayed at the Holiday Inn across from the convention center (19th). Turned out to be a great choice. The room faced the convention center (hence the photo) so I could check out the crowd before venturing out. The room was a bargain at 80EU (including excellent buffet breakfast) and even offered WiFi as an option. WiFi has become pervasive in the US but so far is unheard of in French hotels. In 2004, France is way behind the US on WiFi.
ExpoLangues is a major show. Seemed like every metro had big posters ads. Many people came especially educators, students and tour agents. Alas, there was little to learn about the computer assisted language market unless it simply hasn't matured yet.
